Sequim Bay Yacht Club was founded 40 years ago this year. Throughout these years we have combined fun and fellowship among our members with the pursuit and promotion of safe boating practices. We are a diverse group that includes power boaters and sailors, boat owners and non-boat owners.
We plan an active schedule of cruises from Spring to Fall that are designed to accommodate boats with varying cruising speeds. The Sail Fleet schedules races year round. From April to early September, the “Duck Dodge” races take place on Sequim Bay on Thursday evenings. Throughout the year there are also races on Saturdays.
Starting in 2015, we developed a Family Small Boat program. It combines classroom and on-the-water instruction in Flying Scot dinghies to teach the basics of sailing.
Members meet monthly, except in July and August, at 7:30pm on the second Wednesday of each month at John Wayne Marina. Social activities are held throughout the year. These include the Lunch Bunch on the first Thursday of the month and Happy Hours in our clubroom on the third or fourth Friday of the Month. Special, annual social events include the Men’s Treat Breakfast, Opening Day celebration and the Commodore’s Ball.
Another significant event is our annual Reach For Hospice Regatta. This sail racing regatta raises funds to support the Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County. Since the first regatta in 1992, we have raised more that $270,000 for this community organization.
