RACING

by Fleet Captain, Rudy

Spring Series

  • We started the Spring Series last Saturday, April 13th. The forecast was for pretty  miserable weather – gale force winds and rain. Sea Puppy, Intrepid and WindChild showed up on the start line. Our course was from SF to #4 and then to #1,  twice. The wind was light and flukey – coming from the south, east, west, or north. We experienced it all, but never very much. For a brief time we saw 10 knots on WindChild.

Duck Dodge

  • Last Thursday we raced Spring Duck Dodge # 6. There is one more race in this series and then we will start the Summer Series. WindChild is ahead with 4 wins so she is guaranteed a first place in A fleet. We have 9 boats participating so far this year – 4 in A fleet and 5 in B fleet.

Saturday Series

  • Last Saturday we completed Race # 3. We stayed in the bay because there was no wind on the outside. Four boats were on the starting line – Malolo, Sea Puppy, Intrepid and WindChild. There was a nice breeze and it only took one hour and 20 some minutes to go twice around. The next Saturday race will be on June 1 st.

Mackaye Harbor

  • The Mackaye Harbor Cruise and Pursuit Race will be on July 20th and 21st. Save the date!

We are always looking for committee boats and Johan will assist anyone who volunteers.

Many guests asked for the green bean recipe we served at the Spring Fever dinner.
Here it is:
Green Beans with Black Bean Sauce
Black Bean Sauce:
1 tablespoon salted/fermented or dried black beans, finely chopped
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon water
1 tablespoon cornstarch
Mix all of the ingredients together

Boil the green beans (or other vegetables). Pour off the water and
return the pot to the burner; add the black bean mixture and stir until the vegetables are coated. Serve.

(The salted or fermented black beans are available at McPhee’s in Port Angeles – the small market at 8th and Race.
The green beans are from Costco’s fresh produce refrigerated area.)
