JR YACHT CLUB

Sequim Bay Yacht Club organizes and supports a Junior Yacht Club. The goals of the Junior Yacht Club are to provide educational opportunities for safe boating practices, active sailing experience in boat handling on the water, an introduction to sailing as a competitive sport and sailing opportunities for youth in the community.

Junior Club News

  • Our own Sarah Henry was recently honored at the 55th annual Washington State Science and Engineering Fair. She won first place in the catagory of Engineering Materials and Bioengineering for her project on the “Affect of Compression of Magneto-rheological Fluids” and was awarded a four year scholership worth $80,000. So, what does that have to do with sailing? Sarah is going to SAIL on to much bigger things.
  • Coming SBYC Junior YC Activities:

Call or write Dave Henry.
    • Saturday, June 2nd – SBYC Junior YC – Annual Meeting, Open House & BBQ at Sequim Bay State Park, 10am-6pm- this will be the Junior’s  ”opening day” and presided over by current officers Sarah Henry, Commodore; Laurie Miller, Vice Commodore; Grant Shogren, Secretary.
  •  SHS sailors Grant Shogren, Robert Tadina, Laurie Miller and Reid Henry enjoyed a fine day of racing yesterday out of the Northwest Maritime Center in Port Townsend. Competing against 129 sailors and 26 other teams, SHS improved significantly upon its 2011 results. Racing was marked by light but steady winds from the north and a progressively stronger current during the afternoon which led to at least six general recalls.

  • Sequim High School sailors Grant Shogren, Robert Tadina and Reid Henry competed March 3rd at the NWISA opening regatta hosted by the Seattle Yacht Club on Portage Bay. Sailing Vanguard 15′s against Olympia, Anacortes and Everett high school teams, the trio placed second in the Silver fleet, missing first overall by only two points after sixteen races. The team sailed consistently in a shifty southerly breeze, recording a total of 4 firsts, 10 seconds, 1 third and 1 fourth-place finishes. Skippers Shogren and Henry drove their boats well, with excellent straight-line speed and good starts, especially in the latter races.
